about me: kirsten rybczynski

I am a writer, editor, teacher, and singer with an MFA in writing from Goddard College. My work has appeared in Mayfly and The Raven Chronicles, and has been anthologized in Dorothy Parker's Elbow: Tattoos on Writers, Writers on Tattoos. I teach writing workshops, The Writer's Spark,  to writers and "non-writers" in Northampton, MA, where I live with my wife and two sons. I teach writing because I believe that we all have a story to tell and a natural desire to share these stories. My workshops are designed to help people reconnect with a sense of playfulness and freedom from the voice that asks: "Is this any good?" I am currently at work on a graphic memoir about my childhood experiences in downtown Hartford, CT in the 70s. On most Thursday nights, you can find me at a piano bar, singing my heart out.

Kirsten's workshops were transformative for me. They were an excellent teacher, who created a safe, encouraging, and playful environment. The workshop brought me back to the things I loved about writing. Within the first hour of the workshop, I was enthusiastically writing pages and pages in my notebook, taking creative risks, and remembering details of stories from my life that I had once forgotten. I am so grateful to them for reminding me that I am a writer. It's clear that they can joyfully awaken the writer in anybody.
